Mentioning Users

Mention other users with @username to get their attention or include them in a conversation.

How to Mention Someone

Method 1: Type @ and Username

1. In the message input, type @ followed by the username

2. A dropdown will appear with matching usernames

3. Select the user you want to mention or press TAB for auto-complete

4. Continue typing your message

5. Send as normal

Method 2: Click on a Username

1. Click on a username in the chat

2. The mention will be added to your message input

3. Type your message and send

What Happens When You Mention Someone

When you mention a user:

• They receive a notification (if notifications are enabled)

• The mention appears as @username in the message

• The mentioned user's name is highlighted in the message

• They can click the mention to see the message

Mention Notifications

Mentioned users will see:

• A notification badge

• The message that mentioned them

• The room where they were mentioned

Special Mentions

@everyone

Some rooms support @everyone mentions:

• Notifies all members of the room

• Use sparingly - only for important announcements

• Only room owners/mods can use @everyone in most rooms

Note: @everyone availability depends on room settings.

Mention Best Practices

• ✅ Use mentions wisely - Don't spam mentions

• ✅ Be relevant - Only mention users when necessary

• ✅ Respond to mentions - If someone mentions you, try to respond

• ✅ Use for important info - Mention users when sharing important information

• ❌ Don't abuse mentions - Excessive mentioning is considered spam

• ❌ Don't mention randomly - Only mention users when it makes sense

Privacy

• Your username is public and can be mentioned by anyone

• You cannot disable mentions (they're part of the platform)
